This VERY HARD-TO-FIND KINGS CROWN PATTERN PUNCH BOWL SET CONSISTS OF ONE (1) PUNCH BOWL (16" in diameter), ONE (1) PUNCH BOWL BASE (6.5" inches tall), and TWELVE (12) PUNCH CUPS which have the DARKER RUBY FLASHING (ON THE TOPS ONLY). This set was made by the Tiffin and/or Indiana Glass Companies in the 1940s to the 1970s. The punch bowl measures 16 inches across by 7.5 inches in height. This is a HUGE bowl, and is quite heavy! The base measures 6 1/2 inches tall, and adds more height to the bowl - one could use the bowl with or without the base.
Photo #3: The punch bowl has one slight, very thin scratch in the ruby-colored flashing which measures about 1 inch long. This can be seen just to the right of the measuring tape near the centimeter measuring marks. Photo #3 and #4: Just below and to the left of the joint of my thumb at the lower edge of the ruby-colored flashing, there is a very small glass bubble or a nick in the glass which measures less than 3/16 of an inch wide (measured in Photo #4).
This area is so small that I was unable to determine whether it was a bubble or a nick in the glass. Photo #5: To the left of center of the bowl at the lower edge of the ruby flashing, you see a glint from the sunlight. In this same area but to the right of center of the bowl, you see the bubble or nick as mentioned and seen in Photo #4. Just above and to the right of the bubble or nick, you can see the sun glinting off the top rim of the opposite side of the punch bowl.
Almost directly above this sun glint is located the slight, thin scratch in the ruby flashing. Located at a downward slant to the lower edge of the ruby flashing is the "straw mark". As can be seen in the photos, these three items are in close proximity to each other, and are almost in a pyramid-type shape. Photos #5, #6, and #7: These photos are not close-ups of the punch bowl. This pyramid-shaped area is not nearly as noticeable as the close-up photos make it appear.
See Photos #11 and #12: There are twelve (12) punch cups in this set. One punch cup has lost a bit of its ruby-colored flashing but is still in excellent condition. There appear to be a few small scratch-type marks on the cup, but the cup will display very nicely. This may also be a result of the application of the ruby-colored flashing which would not affect the value of the punch cup. Upon closer inspection, you realize it is an impressed line in the glass that was from manufacture. It is easy to tell as they are not extremely deep; do not penetrate the glass; are located on only one side of the glass; are typically irregular in shape; and vary from piece to piece.
All in all, this is one super, fantastic, hard-to-find Tiffin or Indiana Glass Companies' punch bowl set in the ruby-flashed color (only on the tops of each piece). Thank you for visiting our listings today! My parents and I are downsizing some of their vintage finds from their 30+ years of collecting this-n-that.
