I TRY TO BE EXTREMELY THOROUGH WHEN DESCRIBING MY ITEMS AS I DO NOT WANT YOU TO RECEIVE AN ITEM AND HAVE ANY SURPRISES. This VERY HARD-TO-FIND KINGS CROWN PATTERN 16 PUNCH BOWL THIS IS A QUITE LARGE AND HEAVY BOWL! , PUNCH BOWL BASE, AND 12 PUNCH CUPS which have the DARKER RUBY FLASHING (ON THE TOPS ONLY), WAS MADE BY THE TIFFIN/INDIANA GLASS COMPANIES in the 1940's to the 1970's.
This glass pattern was made by several glassware companies over the years; and the Tiffin Glass Company did sell their glassware molds to the Indiana Glass Company which then produced their line of Kings Crown glassware. The punch bowl measures 16 inches across by 7.5 inches in height. This is a HUGE bowl, and this bowl is very HEAVY!! The base measures 6 1/2 inches tall, and adds more height to the bowl - one could use the bowl with or without the base. The punch bowl has one slight, very thin scratch in the ruby-colored flashing which measures about 1 inch long. (See photo #3 - the thin scratch can be seen just to the left of the front center section of the upper ruby-colored flashing). Photo #4: To the right of the center-front on the upper ruby-colored flashing, there is.
A very small glass bubble or a nick in the glass which measures less than 3/16 of an inch wide (measured in Photo #5). Photo #6: Approximately 1/4 of the way across the punch bowl at the lower part of the ruby flashing. And at the top of the "rim" of the clear glass directly underneath the ruby flashing, there is a "straw mark" about 1.5 to 2.0 inches to the right of the small glass bubble or nick mentioned in the previous paragraph. This "straw mark" can be seen in Photo #6, and is measured in Photo #7. See Photos #6 and #7: This straw mark.
Measures about 1 1/8 (one and one-eighth) inches in height, and curves over into the nearest circular decoration on the punch bowl - approximately four inches to the right of the seam and straw mark. This is located just beneath the ruby-flashed part of the punch bowl, and as a result of manufacturing will not affect the value of the punch bowl. See Photos #4 and #6: These photos are not close-ups of the punch bowl, and show an accurate depiction of the bowl's appearance. The area is not as noticeable as the photos make it seem.
See Photos #11 and #12: There are twelve (12) punch cups in this set. One punch cup has lost a bit of its ruby-colored flashing but is still in excellent condition.
There appear to be a few small scratch-type marks on the cup, but the cup will display very nicely. This may also be a result of the application of the ruby-colored flashing which would not affect the value of the punch cup. Upon closer inspection, you realize it is an impressed line in the glass that was from manufacture. It is easy to tell as they are not extremely deep; do not penetrate the glass; are located on only one side of the glass; are typically irregular in shape; and vary from piece to piece. All in all, this is one super, fantastic HARD-TO-FIND TIFFIN OR INDIANA GLASS COMPANIES' PUNCH BOWL SET IN THEIR RUBY-FLASHED COLOR (ONLY ON THE TOPS OF THE PIECES)! THE PUNCH BOWL SET CONSISTS OF THE PUNCH BOWL, THE PUNCH BOWL BASE, AND TWELVE (12) PUNCH CUPS! The only flaw which might affect this set's value is the small, thin scratch (as described above). The other items, which occurred during manufacture of the pieces, will not affect their value.
