Outstanding American Brilliant Period Large Cut Glass Center Bowl or Punch Bowl! This outstanding and spectacular American Brilliant Period Large Cut Glass Bowl has an unusual and rare shape and could be used as a large center fruit or flower bowl or a medium-size punch bowl. The cutting on this piece is literally the sharpest of my experience!
The cuttings exhibit cane, diamond, crosshatch and feather. The flat base is cut with opposing pinwheels. The inner-base cutting is in star and pinwheel and the outer edge of the base is cut in opposing feathered pinwheel.
The top edge is cut in a very sharp sawtooth. I have displayed this piece for many years and it makes a most beautiful centerpiece. It was likely made by one of the major glass houses, perhaps Hawkes, Clark, Pairpoint, Parsche, Pitkin Brooks, Hoare, Tuthill--take your pick! The quality is excellent and this would make a lovely and premium addition to a cut or art glass collection.Dimensions: 10 1/2 inches top diameter; 7 3/4 inches base diameter; and 5 inches height to top of rim. There are no cracks or repairs. The blank is clear and heavy. I can find one bubble enclosed in the glass and a very minor "straw" mark. There are three to four very minor nicks on the top sawtooth edge but you have to look closely to find them.
