Offered for less than half 2024 adjusted value in near new condition!! During the industrial revolution, the ultra rich displayed their affluence with table settings of the finest china, silver, and cut glass. Master craftsmen created the glass blank, then master cutters spent many hours cutting and polishing the final piece. Over half the cost in cut glass was the hand blown leaded glass blank, the balance was in the cutting.

The Monarch pattern was featured in J. Hoare's first catalog of 1896. The crown jewel though must have been this massive 20 pound punch bowl. Huge hand cut stacked stars create a wedding cake layer of Hobstars. A 14 point brunswick star is cut on the hob of a 24 point hobstar, which is cut on the hob of a 36 point hobstar!

Each a master class of cutting. I have always marveled at the depth of the large miters in this 5/8th's inch thick water clear blank.

The pattern is easily recognized by the miter outlined pentagons, topped with a diamond point bowtie, then topped by an extended point hobstar also known as a Christmas star. The base features a very'J Hoare' scroll cut motif atop step cut miters followed by the Monarch pattern features. No signature as expected on this early pre-1900 piece.

14" wide and 12" tall, 20 pounds. Condition is excellent with only a few pin pricks to the pattern.
