The rim is folded over, the foot bottom has a rough pontil scar. The heavy stem is applied. Made of an early type of flint glass metal with a grayish color cast (which is often associated with early pieces). It has a very long sustained ringing sound when knocked on with a knuckle. This compote is very heavy for its size.
Because of it's heavy build/large size, it was likely originally intended for use in an apothecary/store/bar/hotel etc. It's big enough to possibly even be a punch bowl. It appears to be a true open compote because there is not any obvious use-wear evidence that it once had a cover. It is very difficult to find massive flint glass items like this! Nothing else included or implied in this sale.
Size : 10" diameter rim, x 8.25" tall with 6 diameter foot. Weight : 6.5 lbs unpacked. No chips, no cracks, no repairs. The glass is not sick or cloudy. The glass has a gray color cast when viewed through the thick parts. This item has no significant damages, but it does show use-wear consistent with it's antique age and prior utilization. As always due to age and prior usage, the item may have slight imperfections such as minor scuffs, scratches, trim wear, and/or slight manufacturing defects.
