ABP AMERICAN BRILLIANT CUT GLASS 2 PIECE PUNCH BOWL. FRY IVY or Ivy Variation. Today we are listing for sale a Punch Bowl, completely handcrafted during the American Brilliant Period. This Punch Bowl can be the central piece in any good collection. Once seen, it becomes a must. I believe this to be manufactured by the Fry Company in their Ivy Pattern, or a variation of, my apologies my books are packed away for a move. When a beautiful pattern is crafted on a very fine blank, such as in this case, the result is extra brilliance and a totally magnificent item. The bowl features a fancy scalloped rim design, difficult to execute and adds a pretty touch to the this lovely large punch bowl.
You will have in your collection, or perhaps as a gift a very special piece of Art History. 10" opening diameter, executed on a thick 3/8" blank. Blank: Mouth blown very clear water white. This validates its provenance as an American Brilliant Period cut glass item. The luminescence is a result of adding manganese to the molten glass mixture to decolorize the iron in the sand. It validates the Period because the 40 year Period between 1870 and 1916 was the time in the course of ABP history that manganese was employed. Brilliant Period cut glass as a result of the combined hardening and radiance producing lead oxide with the added manganese was named the finest cut glass in the world. Condition, there are surface scratches on the interior of bowl, it has been used, some flakes to the rim and rim of foot base, nothing major but do exist, on the plinth stand there is a larger flake/chip however I have used it for years and does not impact the integrity of the set and it when displayed none is seen, it displays beautifully and lights a gorgeous apple green when black light tested.
Questions are welcome and I have many photographs upon request if needed. Remember that shape determines the manner in which a pattern is cut as seen in the last photo. For a video of this amazing bowl you can head over to my Etsy store search CherishedHunts. CIRCA: 1899 Black light test green.
